Adoption Success Stories

Dusty ๐Ÿ’•

Dusty Bottoms is one of the #upland8 dogs rescued from a horrific living situation. Him and 7 other dogs lived in a vacant home with no human interaction, access to the outside, or medical attention. He lived in his own urine and feces until Animal Control was called in to save him and the rest of the pups. Despite this horrific and heartbreaking situation, this amazing 9 year old fluff-ball LOVES being held and enjoys receiving attention from any human willing to give it. Dusty found his forever home with a loving couple in Southern California.

Ruth Barker Ginsburg ๐Ÿ’•

Ruth is a 10 year, 8 lb, little old lady who came in to the Riverside shelter as a stray where she waited patiently for 2 months for someone to save her. After taking her to the vet, it was determined that she has calcified disc in her spinal cord and 2 inguinal hernias which are inoperable because they have entrapped the bowel. She was adopted by her foster family. Her amazing forever family has promised to do everything they can to ensure she is loved and cared for the rest of her time with us.

Soda Pop ๐Ÿ’•

Meet Soda Pop! Soda Pop is one of the #upland8 dogs rescued from a horrific living situation. He and 7 other dogs lived in a vacant home with no human interaction, access to the outside, or medical attention. He was covered in feces and urine when Animal Control was called in to take the pups. Despite what he has been through, this sweet senior loves being pet and getting affection. This 6 lb. pup is diabetic due to the lack of care he received in his previous home. He was adopted by a wonderful human and is now loving life in his furever home and is now getting the love and care he deserves.

Oh sweet Bear. What can we say about him? Bear was found with a broken jaw, due to dental disease, and abandoned by his owner. The owner was contacted but never came. He was shaking in the shelter with a broken jaw for too long. Luckily, HFFR was able to step in. Bear is believed to be around 12 years old. An amazing foster stepped up and helped provide him a home while he received surgery for his jaw. His foster family fell in love with him and decided that they couldn't live without him. He is loving life in his furever home in La Mesa, California.

Buddy is such a special little guy. He was rescued from a shelter and diagnosed with lymphoma. He was malnourished, and has severe dental issues which have caused sneezing and mucus build up. Although he has gone through so much, he still has the sweetest soul, around 13 years old, and cuddles up to anyone he meets. Because we are not sure how long he has with us, we have found a fospice family who will provide him with love for the rest of his days. We are so grateful to know such a loving dude.

Butters is a 5 year old, 6 lb chihuahua who was rescued from the Moreno Valley shelter two days before he was set to be euthanized. He was dumped by his โ€œfamilyโ€ along with another dog who ended up getting adopted quickly, leaving Butters all by himself at the shelter. He showed extreme fear based aggression while at the shelter and didnโ€™t want anyone to get close to him. He was rescued because he deserved a chance at a second life. Now, he is thriving in his forever home in sunny San Diego!

Jessie is as sweet as they come. There is not one thing wrong with her, sheโ€™s absolutely perfect! She was dumped at the shelter because her owners didnโ€™t have time for her anymore which blows our minds because sheโ€™s such a good dog. Sheโ€™s calm, easy going, and absolutely loves to cuddle. She gets along great with other dogs and adults/kids. Sheโ€™s quiet, house trained, walks beautifully on a leash, sleeps the whole night without a peep, and loves a good cuddle! Whoever adopts Jessie will be one lucky person!

Peaches is a sweet girl who is so easy to be around. She loves laying around getting endless belly rubs and also enjoys a good walk around the block! She was rescued from North Central Shelter in LA and has been living the life being spoiled in her foster home. She is house trained, super sweet and loving, enjoys being around other dogs, and especially enjoys her daytime naps! Sheโ€™s a fantastic dog and will be a great companion for anyone!!

Nester is an adorable sweet 10 year old chihuahua who found himself at the shelter waiting for someone to save him. He was adopted then quickly returned because he had itchy skin due to a flea allergy and the adopters didnโ€™t want to deal with it! He was rescued and given some skin medication to help his skin clear up! His blood work came back great - heโ€™s one healthy little guy! He is very calm, sweet, and well mannered. He gets along with with other dogs, cats, children, and adults. Heโ€™s a really sweet dog who is patiently waiting to find his forever home.

Clyde is a 6 year old, 22 lb beagle-basset hound- chihuahua mix. He was rescued from the Moreno Valley Shelter and is the most lovable guy youโ€™ll meet! He was adopted by a fantastic and loving couple in Temecula CA! He will be living a life of luxury and will be very spoiled in his forever home!

Princess was surrendered to the shelter at 14 years old because her owners โ€œdidnโ€™t have time for her anymoreโ€. She is one of the most loving dogs we had ever met! Someone saw how beautiful she was on the inside (as well as the outside) and decided to take it official and adopter her! Princess now lives a life of love and luxury with her other fur sibling sister!

Legolas was a scared and shaking little chihuahua that wouldn't come out of his pen at the shelter. When we saw how terrified he was, we knew we had to step in and were lucky to be able to rescue him from the South LA Shelter. He was extremely nervous and would hide in the corner away from all the terrible and scary sounds. This 3 year old quickly became comfortable after leaving the shelters and does great around other pets and people. He is house trained and likes to play outside. He also happens to be the the worlds best cuddler!! He is up for adoption and looking for his furever home!

Papaya ๐Ÿ’•

Papaya is a kind and gentle 2 year old who was found on someone's front porch with another dog who we believe to be her puppy. We think she is a chihuhua/Boston terrier mix. Papaya is spayed and is a delight to be around. Papaya does well with people and other dogs. Her foster mom fell in love with her and decided to adopt her!! She is so in love with her, itโ€™s truly a match made in heaven!

Bonnie ๐Ÿ’•

Bonnie Ian a 7 year old, 9lb chihuahua who was left in a car for over 2 hours in 100 degree weather. Authorities confiscated her from her owner who happened to be homeless and living in the car with Bonnie. The owner agreed that Bonnie needed a chance at a good life so she relinquished her to the Moreno Valley Shelter. Despite everything, Bonnie happens to be the most loving and gentle dog. She loves to cuddle and be around people. She does great with other dogs, enjoys going on walks and adventuring in the back yard, and loves playing with toys. She was adopted by her foster mom and will be living the good life in Southern California!

Lucky ๐Ÿ’•

Lucky Day is one of the #upland8 dogs rescued from a horrific living situation. He and 7 other dogs lived in a vacant home with no human interaction, access to the outside, or medical attention. He was adopted by his loving foster family and will be living his happily ever after in sunny San Diego.

Mango ๐Ÿ’•

Mango is a sweet 4 month old who was found on someone's front porch with another dog who we believe to be her mother. We are unsure of her and her mom's breed but believe they are a Boston terrier/chihuahua mix. Mango is so sweet and has the true puppy spirit. She does well in a crate and is still learning to potty outside. We believe she was either dumped (no microchip) or that she has been a stray all of her life. She loves people and other dogs and really just wants someone to love her.  She was adopted along with her mama Papaya by their foster family and are living their best lives in Encinitas, CA.

Snowball ๐Ÿ’•

Snowball was found in the middle of a busy intersection in Long Beach, CA. She is blind but can hear pretty well. When we first rescued her, we thought she was in the stages of heart failure, but it turned out that she just had broncotis! She is doing incredible now and feeling very healthy!! She has the biggest heart and loves to be cuddled! She was adopted by her foster dad and is currently living the best life in LA!

Mimi ๐Ÿ’•

Mimi is 10 years young and probably the sweetest dog you will ever meet. Her previous owners were moving and couldnโ€™t take her with them (for reasons that are unknown to us). The previous owner had a lot of excuses and threatened to โ€œthrow her out on the street.โ€ Thankfully, a kind neighbor intercepted and took her in so she wouldnโ€™t have to go to the overcrowded shelter or even worse be left to fend for herself on the street. Itโ€™s clear she was very loved by her previous owners and didnโ€™t deserve to be tossed away like garbage when she needed someone the most! After just a few weeks in a foster home, she was adopting by a loving person and is now living her best life in California!

Emilia ๐Ÿ’•

Emilia was rescued from the Moreno Valley Shelter where she was picked up by animal control as a stray. She was found lying in someone's front yard after she had been attacked by a bigger animal. It's a miracle she was still alive when found. She had a huge bite wound that wrapped clearly around her neck and bites all over body! She was able to get surgery to close her wounds and is well on her way to a full recovery! She is the sweetest, most loving dog around! She was adopted by her foster mom and will be spoiled for the remainder of her days!

Raven (in fospice) ๐Ÿ’•

We picked Raven up after she was found roaming the streets. She is a magical 10 year old blind and bowlegged chihuahua. She is absolutely magical and can be quite feisty. After we rescued her, we took her to the vet to get a mass checked out on one of her legs. It turned out to be cancerous. Given her age and other risks, we have decided not to try and surgically remove the tumors. We are not sure how much time we have left with Raven but we are so happy we were able to rescue her. We are also thankful her foster agreed to become a fospice provider to ensure she stays comfortable and gets lots of love.

Mayo ๐Ÿ’•

Hi friends! I was so nervous when HFFR first spotted at the shelter. I was so scared I sat at the back of my kennel and was overlooked by many. I was there for three months until HFFR rescued me. They, and my foster (now furever mom) saw past my scared behaviors and knew that I, like other dogs, would thrive outside the shelter and in a loving home. I'm so thankful they took a chance on me.  I am even more thankful that my foster mom and family decided to make it permanent and I am loving life in my furever home.

Bambi ๐Ÿ’•

We picked up Bambi at the South LA Shelter after she and another pup were dumped there by their previous owner. After a few weeks, her playmate was adopted and Bambi was left alone and scared. This one year old, six pound cutie caught our attention and, of course, we wanted to help. She is super sweet and gentle and has so much love to give. She found her happy ever after with her foster family who adopted her after realizing they couldn't live life without her!

Carmel ๐Ÿ’•

Hi there! My name is Carmel and I'm an 8 year old Jack Russell terrier mix. I lived with the same family for my whole life but unfortunately they couldn't keep me anymore. I get along with everyone and it didn't take very long for HFFR to find me a furever home. I am so grateful for them! I am loving life with my fur sister Pooh Bear and my furever mom in Beaumont. Thanks HFFR and all the people who helped.

Jack ๐Ÿ’•

Hey there furiends! My name is Jack and I'm around 2 years old. A family bought me for their young son who didn't like dogs, so they left me outside to fend for myself without food or water. Luckily, a kind neighbor helped me out and gave me some care. They reached out to HFFR who came out to visit and wanted to help me! I am so grateful I was placed in an amazing foster home that day. My foster parents love me so much, they decided to adopt me and keep me furever! I am living in my furever home in California and still can't get enough tennis balls!

Donna & Gigi ๐Ÿ’•

Hey there! Donna and Gigi here! We were picked up from the shelter when our owner passed away and no one else in the family wanted to keep us. We aren't sure why they gave us up because we just wanted love! We are so excited HFFR helped get us out of the shelter and in December, our foster mom decided to adopt both of us! We are thrilled to find a furever home together in Southern California!

Wanda ๐Ÿ’•

Hey there! My name is Wanda and I'm 11 years old. HFFR spotted me at the shelter when they were rescuing up another furry friend and saved me too! I was overlooked by others due to being geriatric and blind in my right eye but that didn't matter to HFFR. I had to get dental surgery to remove all of my teeth which were rotted and affecting my breathing. I had an amazing foster family who decided that they couldn't let me go so I'm excited to announce that I'm adopted!

Josie ๐Ÿ’•

Hi my name is Josie! I'm a 1 1/2 year old, 6lb min pin who was rescued from the Riverside Shelter. I was overlooked because I was very fearful of being in the shelter after my previous owners dumped me there because they no longer wanted me! Luckily some really nice people saved me and now I'm living the best life ever in my forever home!

Romeo ๐Ÿ’•

Romeo came to us after his owners fell on hard times. He is a 6 year old min pin chihuahua mix who has the biggest heart. A wonderful family adopted Romeo and plan on spoiling him for the rest of his life! He truly hit the jackpot!

Nala ๐Ÿ’•

Hey furiends! My name is Nala (previously named Curly) and I'm 3 years old. HFFR was very confused when I was surrendered to them after being bounced around between homes because I LOVE being around people. After feeling like no one wanted me, I was lucky to find my amazing furever family who renamed me Nala, which means gift, because they feel like I'm a gift to them. I love them so much!

Ned ๐Ÿ’•

Ned the cutest little nugget is one of the #upland8 dogs rescued from a horrific living situation. Him and 7 other dogs lived in a vacant home with no human interaction, access to the outside, or medical attention. He was covered in feces/urine and had urine scalding on his paws when Animal Control was called in to take the pups. Despite what he has been through, this sweet 7 year old loves being pet and held like a baby. This 7 lb. pup has a heart murmur and is missing some teeth, but he doesn't let that stop him! His amazing foster mom fell in love with him the moment she met him and decided to adopt him! Yay! Happy tails little guy!

Gracie ๐Ÿ’•

Hi! My name is Gracie and I'm around 2 years old. HFFR found me lying under a car with a 10 pound chain around my neck in 110 degree heat. They took me to the vet and were told that I most likely was used for breeding and had already had a couple of litters. I'm so lucky HFFR found me when they did. They liked me so much, that they decided to make me part of their furever family. Now, I'm living in my furever home in California!

Carly ๐Ÿ’•

This sweet girl is a 1 year old, 14 lb, Shitzu/ Lhasa Apso mix who was living behind a dumpster for two weeks in Las Angeles. A kind human saved her from almost being hit by a car and brought her to us so we could provide the care needed to get her cleaned up and ready for adoption! She was covered in grease and matted very badly so we got her groomed and she is like a brand new dog! Her foster family fell in love with her and adopted her! She is now living the best life ever in Temecula, CA!

Harley ๐Ÿ’•

Hi there! I'm Harley and I'm 8 years old. I was left behind when my first family moved and couldn't take me with them. Some amazing people inquired about me at HFFR and after fostering me for a couple of months, they realized they couldn't imagine a life without me so they adopted me! As you can tell from my smile, I couldn't be happier at my furever home in northern San Diego.

Ponce ๐Ÿ’•

Hey guys! My name is Ponce De Leon. I'm 14 years old. I was dumped at a park in Hanford, CA by people who I thought loved me. I was covered in fleas, tics, malnourished, and had been hit by a car. You could say I wasn't doing so well. But don't worry, I was saved by some really nice people and I recovered great! I was adopted into a loving forever home in Southern California and couldn't be happier!

Doc ๐Ÿ’•

Hey there! My name is Doc. Im 5 years old. I was saved from an LA shelter when I thought time was up and had lost all hope. I am very playful like a puppy, but would rather cuddle on your lap than go for a long walk. Even after being attacked by a dog, I have nothing but love to give to anyone I encounter.  My foster parents fell in love with me and decided to adopt me! It was the best day ever! I love my furever home in Orange County, California!

Penelope ๐Ÿ’•

Hey humans!! I'm Penelope. A loving and sassy 9 year old Chihuahua. I was picked up as a stray with my best friend and dumped at the Carson Shelter in LA. My friend got adopted quickly, but no one wanted me. I waited 3 months for someone to come for me. Finally someone came! They took me to the vet to address my mammary tumors, 8 infected teeth and growths on the side of my head. Everything was taken care of and now I'm living the life in my furever home in Southern California.

Jelly Bean ๐Ÿ’•

Jelly Bean was saved the day before she was set to be euthanized. She is blind, about 12 years old, has diabetes, and a grade 6/6 heart murmur. She has been doing well since being on the insulin and heart medication and is learning how to navigate herself around her fospice home. We arenโ€™t sure how long we will have her so we plan to keep her at her fospice home where she can receive all of the love she deserves at this time in her life!

Molly was rescued from North Central Shelter in LA during the 4th of July. She is an 8 year old, 14 lb terrier mix who is as sweet as can be! She found her forever home with a loving human in Los Angeles, CA!

Blanche was brought into the Downey shelter as a stray in August 2018. She is a 10 year old spayed chihuahua with a heart of gold. She was adopted by a loving woman and she will have two other fur siblings to play with!!

Misty ๐Ÿ’”

Misty is an 8 year old female who was rescued from South LA Shelter after she sat for months waiting for someone to save her! Upon rescuing her it became apparent she was much older and sicker than we had thought. She had many large mammary masses that were cancerous and taking over her health. After two weeks of receiving so much love and cuddles in her foster home, she passed away surrounded by everyone who loved her. We wish we had more time with her but we are happy she was given love in her final days!

Munchkin ๐Ÿ’”

RIP Munchkin. He was a 10 year old chihuahua rescued from South LA shelter where he was picked up as a stray by animal control. He was one of the most innocent and loving creatures we had ever met. He passed away only after a few months of being rescued and he is missed dearly every day.

Flynn ๐Ÿ’”

- RIP - Loving Flynn - age unknown.

This sweet guy was found living in a drainage ditch in San Diego, CA. He was extremely malnourished, freezing, covered in ticks, diabetic, and in the final stages of heart failure. His final months were filled with sun soaked afternoons on his private balcony and endless belly rubs until he peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge in his sleep. He is our forever angel who truly showed us what rescue is all about.

Sam ๐Ÿ’”

RIP Sweet Sam - 3 months old.

Sam was brought to HFFR after a kind soul picked her up off the street. Sam was skinny, covered and fleas, and looked to have an eye infection. After getting blood work done, we found out she had Leukemia. With a heavy heart, we made the decision to let her pass with peace and dignity. She was suffering and very sick. Although our time with her was shorter than we wanted, we are grateful to be able to provide her with love and care in her final days. Rest in Paradise sweet girl.

Black Diamond ๐Ÿ’”

RIP Black Diamond. He was a 9 year old Cane Corso/ Pit mix with lots of spunk rescued from Downey Shelter on the day he was scheduled to be euthanized. His owners surrendered him because he was having a hard time walking. They didn't realize he was in a lot of pain due to a bulging disk in his lower spine. He was rescued and had back surgery and lived another two years! In April 2018 his health declined rapidly and he was ready to move on. He went to heaven in the comfort of his doggy bed at home. We all miss him a lot!

Venus ๐Ÿ’”

Venus was 13 years old and came in as a stray. She was blind and very quiet and sweet. She was a lap sitter but enjoys walking on her own and is pretty good at navigating. She had cancer and pyometra, severe dental disease, heavy tartar, opacity OU, a mammary mass, an abrasion on her left hip, and a tip of her ear is missing. She lived with a loving fospice family for 5 months before passing naturally on her own. She will be missed dearly by so many.

Ernie ๐Ÿ’”

We rescued the cutest 16 year old muppet named Ernie from Castaic shelter. He lived outside his entire life and when his owners dumped him at the shelter they said it was because he was "too old". We found it ironic that his owners were in their 80's and seniors too... #Karma. But what do they say? What's one mans trash is another mans treasure! โœจHe had signs of doggy dementia but we thought we had more time with him. His health quickly declined over a week and left us for doggy heaven. It breaks our hearts that we didn't have much time with him but are grateful that we were able to take him in. We are also very grateful for his wonderful fospice family who showed him so much love.  RIP sweet boy. โค๏ธ

Star ๐Ÿ’”

RIP Beautiful Star - 13 years old.

We rescued Star from the shelter after she was picked up as a stray. Her previous family actually said they didn't want her. We were able to rescue her right before she was to be euthanized. She had a lot of trouble walking and after seeing the vet, we discovered masses on her liver and chest. Her health declined and after a week she lost the desire to eat, refused water and medication, and seemed to be uncomfortable and in pain. Always with her best interest at heart, we decided it was time to let her go. She spent her last week in an amazing foster home surrounded by lots of love and hugs.
